The B or Better Program.

Two of the largest undergraduate courses at IU are Math-M118 and Math-119. Most degree programs require at least one of these courses and some (like the Kelley School of Business) require both. To better see the struggles that students have with these courses, look to these statistics from last fall (2016).

In Finite Math - M 118:
54.2% of the students still enrolled in the class after the first week of classes got either a "C", "D", "F", or dropped the class.

In Brief Survey of Calculus - M 119:
55.8% of the students still enrolled in the class after the first week of classes got either a "C","D","F", or dropped the class.

Literally thousands of students found these courses extremely challenging, and many of these students never struggled with Math in high school.

Because of the challenge presented by these courses, Campus Tutoring Service has a customized plan called the "B or Better Program" . It is very similar to going to a "boot camp" at your local gym. In these "boot camps", a person makes a commitment to come to certain classes, and if they stick with the program they usually get noticeable results. Our program is similar. A person makes a commitment to attend certain sessions at CTS, and if they stick with the program they usually get noticeable results. There are two parts to the program. First, we provide ongoing help from the beginning of the semester via our signature group tutoring sessions. Students either attend three 50 minute sessions a week (one Monday, one Wednesday, and one Friday) or two 75 minute sessions a week (one Tuesday and one Thursday). Here is the schedule for our signature groups this semester:

FINITE MATH-M118

Mon/Wed/Fri 11:15am-12:05pm, 3:35pm-4:25pm, 5:45pm-6:35pm (the 5:45pm time is not available on Fridays)

Tues/Thurs 11:15am-12:30pm, 4:10pm-5:25pm

BRIEF SURVEY OF CALCULUS-M119

Mon/Wed/Fri 12:20pm-1:10pm, 4:40pm-5:30pm

Tues/Thurs 2:30pm-3:45pm, 5:45pm-7pm

Second, in the days leading up to each in-class Exam, the Midterm, and the Final Exam, we provide comprehensive Exam Review Sessions to make certain all the relevant concepts and formulas are fresh going into the tests. The full terms and conditions of the program, including attendance requirements, are given on the next page as well as the bottom of this page.

Students who complete the program and enrolled in the program prior to the second Monday of any semester are also entitled to grade based compensation should their grade at the end of the semester be lower than a B-. Students who enroll after this deadline (the date of enrollment will be determined by the date the package is purchased) will get all of the bullet point benefits listed above but are not eligible for any grade based compensation should their final course grade be lower than a B-.

Grade of C+ = 20% refund
Grade of C = 35% refund
Grade of C- = 50% refund
Grade of D+ = 75% refund
Grade of D or lower = 90% refund

There are two ways to pay for the program. Option number 1 is prepay for everything, which gets you an additional 10% off the cost of the required tutoring sessions. The fee for this option is $749; $99 of this is a non-refundable registration fee and $650 is prepayment for the required tutoring sessions. Students who want to "pay-as-you-go" for the sessions have a one-time $99 non-refundable registration fee to get signed up, then pay as they sign up for and attend the sessions throughout the semester.

Students must enroll in the program no later than the first Friday of the academic semester to be eligible for grade based compensation.
